Programs & Events

The AAPI Commission holds a wide variety of programs and events every year, from listening sessions to a small grants fund. While the exact programs and events change over time, they all have the goal of uplifting the voices of AAPI communities and providing critical resources throughout Massachusetts.

Listening Sessions

One of the flagship programs of the AAPI Commission is its Listening Sessions. They are generally focused on specific communities, though occasionally there will be issue-based listening sessions. The AAPIC has held listening sessions from Quincy to Lowell to Springfield, as well as online.

Small Grants Fund

The Small Grants Fund is one of the most popular programs ever launched by the AAPI Commission. Since its inception in 2021, the AAPIC is awarded more than $140,000 to over 60 community organizations and local businesses.

Western Massachusetts

The AAPIC has made a concerted effort to increase relationships with AAPI communities throughout Western Mass, including through our small grants fund, attending events, and the establishment of Quarterly Western Mass Meetings, starting in October 2022.

Policy Priorities

As part of the AAPI Commission’s mission and its responsibilities under state statute, the AAPIC advises executive and legislative bodies on the potential effect of proposed legislation on the AAPI community. You can learn more about the policy priorities the AAPIC is currently supporting here.

Youth Council

Established in 2022, the Youth Council consists of a small group of high school students from throughout Massachusetts with the purpose of elevating young people’s voices and promoting leadership values and skills among AAPI youth. Youth Council members participate in trainings, learn how to advocate for their communities, develop events, interact with elected officials, and build community.

AAPIC and UMB Survey

The Massachusetts Asian American and Pacific Islander community is broad and deeply diverse, yet current polls and surveys give limited information about the differences within the AAPI community. The AAPI Commission has long advocated for data disaggregation, and this survey will be an important step towards data equity and more knowledge about the Massachusetts AAPI community. The AAPIC is proud to work with our incredible local public universities.

Unity Dinner

Every spring, the Massachusetts AAPI Commission holds a gala to bring together the vast and diverse AAPI community from throughout Massachusetts, celebrate the strides taken in the previous year, and fundraise to support the AAPI Commission’s non-profit.
